MEMORIAL FUND

Two homes are lonely tonight…

Two hearts are broken tonight…

Two families cry tears of sorrow…

For beds and bowls now empty.

Two journeys have ended – one young and one older

But whether young or old it is never time enough.

 Two hearts are broken tonight!

Families whose constant companion greeted them with woos hear only silence, deafening silence.

 Two homes are lonely tonight.

But through their tears, friends have come forward to give emotional support – a cyber-hug perhaps – for the two families who grieve.

Their grief needs us to help and our help is to honor their wishes...

…To start a memorial fund in the names of their beloved so funds are available for others less fortunate.

Zuki – only age 3 and in the prime of her life – and Buca – age 11.5 and in his golden years – both gone too early. No time is ever right. But both homes are lonely tonight.

Zuki, the white wonder dog who honored Nancy Almann’s life and provided companionship, cheer, and love. She died quickly of an aggressive cancer.

Nancy has said:

"Zuki, thank you for gracing my life as you did. Hail to thee, blithe spirit.
Always in my heart.

Zuki became my heart dog. I still weep over losing her multiple times each day, sometimes even when holding Puppa.

While Zuki's medical expenses were pretty amazing, I would by far prefer that any donations be put towards the medical bills of rescued Akitas in need.  Zuki and I were lucky enough to find one another, and she was worth every penny I spent, although I lost my darling girl. I miss her terribly. If  losing her can help even one dog, some of my grief over losing her will be lessened."

And Buca – who loved Emy and Andy Kurilla and taught them so much about dogs, rescue, and our beloved breed.

Emy said:

“I woke up this morning and just burst into tears. My days were always centered around him - even with our new addition. I'm sure you understand but I cannot explain how lost I am right now. My heart is in pieces, even though we knew it was coming. The house is just so strange without him. I cry all the time. He was with me through everything. My only constant….”

In their honor and memory, we ask friends to share a tribute that we will post or we will send an anonymous greeting. These families have others to help and when approached about this said, if our dog could help one other find comfort, what better legacy could we hope for them to leave.

Nancy shares her life with two ARWNY seniors Nikka and Rafa and a new little special needs puppy, Puppa. Emy and Andy feel strongly Buca held on long enough to know their beloved baby girl Nina just a month old and by whose bedside Buca would lay.

Let’s help these two families to smile in the face of such a loss and honor their companions – let the Memorial Fund take birth and provide a legacy of hope for many to come.

Our sincere condolences to the many in the ARWNY family and beyond that have lost a beloved companion – human or canine.

Many hearts are broken tonight, many homes silent tonight, but because of us all, they are not alone tonight and we honor their legacy.

Condolence Message

Nancy, I remember meeting your beautiful girl on a transport in September. She was so sweet. I fell instantly in love with her. Emy Nancy-- You know how much I hoped and believed it would turn out otherwise. She was your bright, goofy angel, sent to get you through the most difficult time after Kuro. She will always be in our hearts. Love, Karen
Run free, sweet Buca!
