Get Assistance

programpicture copyS.O.S. strives to help keep senior Akitas from losing their homes, by offering help with special needs such as emergency veterinarian costs, special foods/supplements/medications, and orthopedic needs such as special beds, ramps, harnesses and collars, to those families who financially cannot afford to do these things for their senior Akita due to problems faced in today’s economy.

Pet owners who are able to pay a portion of the veterinary care will be asked to do so on a sliding-scale basis. Veterinarians participating in the program will reduce their fees in order to care for animals accepted for treatment under S.O.S. The pets treated through S.O.S. will receive the same level of care as any other veterinary patients. After treating the emergency condition, the veterinarian will institute the appropriate therapy for the continued stabilization of the senior Akita.

To qualify, you will simply need to provide identification and some form of documentation indicating that you are currently unemployed, on public assistance, disabled, or living at or below the poverty level, and also meet our guidelines for assistance. The board assigns a per-dog limit, except under extraordinary circumstances.  The board may review each limit on a case-by-case basis at its discretion.
